In The River of Revival - 3 Essays
In the River of Revival
Seven Compelling New Essays

Two thousand years ago, Jesus commissioned His Church to go and make disciples of nations. Today, we look for the answers to our deepest cultural and moral problems in a hoped for "cure-all super-revival."

Read the Preface to
River of Revival

In this set of seven thought provoking essays titled In the River of Revival, Weaver asks Christians to take a sober look at their modern-day expectations of revival and beyond.

Can a sweeping revival take the place of good old fashioned Christian discipleship? Are we prepared to disciple those who will be coming to Christ in large numbers? Why has the Church of the last several generations squandered so many revival and post revival opportunities?

In the River of Revival examines seven key areas where we can be preparing ourselves, right now. Whether revival actually comes or whether we are just called to continue forward as we have been, the ideas in the seven essays will challenge readers toward a deeper, more reflective approach to their Christian lives and experience.

The Seven Topics:

  • Essay No. 1: Called and Broken. God has always desired for His servants to become broken and usable vessels. Coming revival or not, believers who are serious about serving God must be willing to embrace the trials and tribulations and the accompanying pain and heartache that God uses to shape and mold them into His image. This essay examines several of God's means and methods of shaping His servants.

  • Essay No. 2: Sanctified. To be sanctified means to be set apart unto God. Even though God arranges and allows for circumstances to shape us, we must become willing participants in the process. Each one of God's servants must choose whether they are willing to pay the price to become holy and set apart for God's service.

  • Essay No. 3: Sound-Minded. Scripture commands us to have our minds renewed by God's Word. The more we read and study His Word, the more we realize that not every word spoken by a Christian leader is the gospel truth. We must be willing to invest our time in evaluating and comparing the things we hear with Scripture.

  • Essay No. 4: Rooted in Sound Doctrine. Many in the Church today shudder at the word "doctrine." But God calls us to be doctrinally sound. The historic creeds and doctrines of the Christian faith provide tested and true building blocks for His kingdom. Many dangers and pitfalls await those who seek to interpret Scripture independent of our rich and well-established Christian history.

  • Essay No. 5: Wise. A heart of wisdom comes from God and develops as we mature in Christ. Wisdom is the ability to make sound choices and provide good counsel to others. We do this out of our knowledge of God and a deep understanding of human nature. Wisdom grows as we learn to evaluate life experiences from a sound mind grown from Scripture study, a knowledge of and respect for the historic creeds of the faith, and also through a rich knowledge of history.

  • Essay No. 6: Small c catholic. The Church is much more than our little corner of the world. The body of Christ encompasses many nations, cultures, tribes and races. Each historic Christian denomination brings something positive to the table. Do we have a catholic (small c) vision of His Body?

  • Essay No. 7: Father Oriented. All of human history is heading toward Father-God. The work of the Holy Spirit is to draw men to Christ and the work of Christ is to draw men to the Father. With so much emphasis on the Son and the Holy Spirit today, what has happened to Father God? Are we missing something significant by relating to only two members of the Trinity?

Each of the above seven descriptions will soon be converted to a link leading readers to an online excerpt from each essay. In the meantime, read the Authors' Preface to the series.
